August 2026 Meeting for Business Minutes

The meeting convened on August 9, 2026 at 10:15 am with a moment of silence.

Approval of July Minutes:

The minutes for the July meeting for business were distributed and were approved at the August 9th meeting.

Treasury Update:

Edward Guerra confirmed that there is $1001 in the interest-bearing account and $993 in the checking.

We are breaking even on month-to-month costs, approximately $170, and there are no cash flow issues.

There are no outstanding liabilities.

Religious Education Update:

Jan Westbury confirms Glenn Boylan continues with First Sunday education discussion.

Scott King will present for August Third Sunday. Scott will discuss the spiritual and sacred nature of drums.

David Small will present a talk about his travels to Palestine. Date is still to be confirmed but will be September or October.

Movie Night and Social Activities:

Erin Shroder suggested a Billy Joel/Elton John dueling piano tribute August 14th in Roswell.

There is an August 15th double feature move with food trucks in Duluth.

There is a Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young event at Eddie’s in Duluth. Curt Thompson will provide more details in the Friends chat.

Liz Pupillo will research some events for September.

Five Freedoms Organization support:

Liz Pupillo attended a meeting with Andrew Lewis to find more details on participation. There are two aspects of direct involvement:

  1. Professional clergy
  2. People to provide support and escort voters

There will be training held in September and October and handling conflict.

Liz suggests talking to Christ Church Episcopal about involvement, and will talk with Father Edgar.

Curt Thompson will contact a mosque about their possible participation.

New Business:

There was discussion around a future relationship with Atlanta Friends. Potential to engage with a larger community. This will be an ongoing discussion. Consideration needs to be given to financial commitments, attending annual gatherings, level of commitment.

Next Business Meeting:

The next business meeting is scheduled for September 13th.
